Maths Question on Ratio need some help?
45.9 million cells are to be divided and put into 5 tissue culture flasks in the ratio
of 7:3:8:9:2
Calculate how many cells are to be placed into each flask.
What is the percentage of the total going into each flask?
Can someone please explain to me how to work this out. Thank You
There are 7+3+8+9+2 = 29 parts. Each part consists of 45.9 million / 29 = about 1.583 million cells, which leaves you with:
7(1.583) = 11.081 million cells in the first flask
3(1.583) = 4.749 million cells in the second flask
8(1.583) = 12.664 million cells in the third flask
9(1.583) = 14.247 million cells in the fourth flask
2(1.583) = 3.166 million cells in the fifth flask
The percentage in the first flask is 11.081/45.9 = 0.2414 = 24.14%.
Second flask: 4.749/45.9 = 0.1035 = 10.35%.
Third flask: 12.664/45.9 = 0.2759 = 27.59%
Fourth flask: 14.247/45.9 = 0.3104 = 31.04%
Fifth flask: 3.166/45.9 = 0.069 = 6.9%
