Rusting stove - house buying?
I am in the process of buying a place however the Wood buring stove looks really rusty and not well maintained.
The sealant rings dont lok to good. What shall I do about it. Does it mean the Stove has to be replaced including the seals or it can be serviced and maintained.
Depends on the stove. A few years back, there were lots of companies that jumped into the stove market, and are now out of business. You should still be able to get generic gaskets and a heat resistant glue to install them on the door, etc. from any stove manufacturer.
You could clean the rust off, and paint with a heat resistant paint, oil the fan motor, and be good to go.
That is, if the grates and firebrick inside is ok.
Now if it has rusted through, and the grates are bad, best to replace if you still want to burn wood.
