Automotive Car Jacks - ToolsRUs

Getting a lot of use whether in a home garage or pro auto shop, car jacks are handy mechanic's tools. Only meant to support a car temporarily, a car jack is ideally suited to raising up a corner when you need to change a tyre or get a jack stand under the axle. A jack should only be used to hoist the vehicle up to get it onto a set of jack stands if you plan on doing lengthy work underneath the car. If used improperly, serious injury could result.

Screw thread jacks and hydraulic cylinder jacks are the two basic kinds. Often made to work with vehicles of a particular make and model, screw thread jacks are in some cases included as an OEM part with cars and trucks. Rated to support more weight, aftermarket jacks generally feature a hydraulic cylinder system as opposed to a mechanical thread.

Once properly placed so that the jack saddle comes into contact the structural framework of a vehicle, the hydraulic or screw thread motion lifts the car off the ground. With both types, manual force is used to operate the jack, but the tool gives you an incredible mechanical advantage.

Car jacks vary according to their maximum lifting capacity which is measured in tonnes. In general, most jacks are rated to lift somewhere between 1.5 and 3 tonnes. Weightier vehicles naturally require bigger, more powerful jacks. For easy movement around a shop, larger floor jacks feature durable, locking casters. Casters are not usually found on small hydraulic or screw thread jacks.

To use a jack, place it underneath a vehicle near a tyre. The saddle should meet the structural framework of the vehicle rather than another part which may get damaged by the hydraulic force. Screw thread jacks are raised by attaching a lever and twisting it. With hydraulic jacks, the saddle is raised by pumping a removable handle. To lower a hydraulic jack, remove the handle and reattach it to the safety pressure release valve. Activating the valve slowly releases the pressure in the hydraulic chamber, safely lowering the corner of the vehicle.

How do you cut an internal screw thread? :| ?

help ! i have this homework that is in for tomorrow, and i have no idea what that it is ^

if anyone is smart enough to answer this question then i will be extremely grateful :D

As stated above for small items but a lathe is used for larger pieces as the taps would be to large and expensive. The tool is held stationary and the part is spun at the correct speed and it also feeds the piece in at the correct rate. All you have to know is the correct feed rate and head speed.

Ferguson Hill FH009 Review (Slash Gear)

Ferguson Hill is best known for its monumental FH001 and FH002, towering horns
of transparent perspex with a similarly mammoth price tag. The company
broached the computer/MP3 speaker market a few years back with the markedly
more affordable FH007 system, and is back again with the FH009, aiming this
time at the music and home [...]
