Natural Cleaning: Hydrogen Peroxide vs Chlorine Chlorine bleach
Plain old hydrogen peroxide (H202) found in your local pharmacy or grocery store, at less than two dollars a bottle, is useful in amazing ways and can completely replace smelly chemical, chlorine chlorine bleach.
The simple chemical compound, H202 is water with an extra atom of oxygen, and has wonderful oxidizing properties (this means just via extra oxygen it has cleaning and sanitizing power – no chemicals required).
Historically, chlorine bleach was developed as part of the military chemical weapon arsenal in the 1940s before WWII – the wonderful time period that also gave us petrochemical pesticides - byproducts of WWII nerve gasses.
Hydrogen peroxide (H202), on the other hand, was brought into use earlier, in the 1920s during WWI – as a non-toxic solution, to clean hospitals and provide sanitary needs for the troops.
Any kind of decontamination that chlorine bleach might come to mind for, may be more healthfully and safely done with H202; for it can fulfill many cleaning, sanitizing, and also body and wound detoxifying purposes.
For most uses just a basic commercial bottle of H202 is sufficient, and easily obtained almost anywhere – something to have around the house as a replacement for many cleaning and sanitizing items.
Food grade hydrogen peroxide may be obtained (without preservatives), but it must be kept refrigerated, and always must be diluted to 3-5% before use (caution: in concentrated form it can be dangerous – can cause burns). There are some reports of successful use of food grade H202 in eliminating conditions that support illness.
Clean out your cabinets!
It’s time to let go of some of those nasty old cleaning compounds that have filled the cupboards in our homes, that don’t need to be in the landfill, don’t need to be in our lungs or on our skin.
It really is time for us to consider what we’re buying, its effect on the earth, why we’re buying it (convinced by advertising?), what it does to us when we breathe it in, get it on our skin?
TIP: Did you know that anything we put on our skin shows up in our organs 56 seconds later? Think about that!
Try out non-toxic hydrogen peroxide (H202) for the following uses:
1. Put hydrogen peroxide on your wet kitchen sponge to clean countertops, sink, stove, table.
2. Add H202 to water in a spray bottle - use to clean windows – streak free.
3. Use diluted, to clean and disinfect bathroom fixtures – replace those toxic disinfectants; use H202 on toilet brush (save septic system).
4. Add to white laundry to brighten, remove stains (can spot with H202 but can affect color so use with caution).
5. Add to mop bucket with simply water for sanitary, sparkling clean floors. (or use vinegar/water – nice).
6. Add to water to clean out your compost bucket – let soak and spiffy – no odor, stains gone.
7. Soak toothbrushes in a cup of water with a couple of tablespoons of H202 to get rid of germs.
Anywhere you would consider chlorine bleach or another sanitizing cleaner, try non-toxic hydrogen peroxide instead. You’ll be amazed at what cleaning compounds you can get along without!

That Popular Whitening Agent Known As Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is certainly a popular bleach aside from chlorine-based bleaching chemicals. It is safer than hypochlorite bleaching substances since it’s just made of a molecule of water together with an additional oxygen atom. Therefore, it breaks down in the atmosphere as oxygen and water. It poses hardly any environmental danger. Bleaching is an important chemical process utilized in different household, industrial, as well as personal care applications. However, you ought to be careful in buying this kind of chemical substance since it's being sold in different concentrations and you may buy the inappropriate one. For pharmaceutical and household applications, the three percent formula is readily available. You could buy the strong food quality peroxide solution that is made up of 35% of the chemical, however such concentrated formulas must be properly diluted. Dilution of strong grades of this peroxide should have a caution mainly because the strong type is highly reactive and may result in combustion when spilled on clothes.
When it comes to bleaching, this basic chemical solution can be used to bleach various things, but first you should consider that it is a mild germicide. The three percent mixture could be further watered down to be used as mouthwash. It fully kills germs that are found on your toilet seats and cutting boards. This versatile disinfectant is actually the cheapest on the market. It gets rid of mold and fungi also. You could combine one part of the three percent solution together with two(2) parts water and then apply this liquid on areas that have mold and mildew growth.
One of the most wonderful uses of hydrogen peroxide is its teeth bleaching use. Simple do-it-yourself teeth whitening mixture may be prepared by mixing it using baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). This particular paste preparation may be used as toothpaste.
You can make use of hydrogen dioxide (the less common name for HOOH) to disinfect vegetables and fruits without causing damaging effects. You just put four tablespoons of pharmaceutical grade HOOH into a basin of cold water. Then put the fruits and veggies in the solution. Eliminating the microorganisms on their covering makes them fresh longer.
Are you aware that you may use this chemical in replacement of bleach? It can eliminate unsightly stains as well as bleach whites without developing harmful substances in the atmosphere. You may get rid of the yellow discoloration on your old curtains and tablecloths by putting them in cold water together with two(2) glasses of this particular peroxide. This earth friendly bleach can actually substitute chlorine. A number of purification methods use hydrogen dioxide instead of chlorine in purifying water supply.
As said by several experts, this particular HOOH chemical provides many benefits, but there happen to be few studies done to confirm this belief. There are actually some ideas saying that it can be used as enema to clean the colon. Within safe concentrations it can be ingested in the body to increase immunity.
Although this particular substance is helpful, it may be risky in higher levels. Hydrogen peroxide safety requires appropriate handling, labeling, as well as storage.
12% food grade hydrogen peroxide for dogs?
Has anyone given their dog 12% food grade hydrogen peroxide? How do you dilute it? How many drops hydrogen
peroxide to a gallon of water? Did you have good results with it? My dog is 16 pounds. How do I determine how much to give him of the diluted hydrogen peroxide? I'm using it to treat illness/disease not to treat poisioning. I posted on pets but no one seemed to know about hydrogen peroxide treatment. People use it. Hope someone in alternative medicine can help.
Hydrogen peroxide treatment is not well known, so I doubt that you will get many answers to your question here, however, I have personally used this treatment. It was for myself, not my dog. Perhaps, the experience I do have will help you, so I will share this with you.
I used 12% food grade hydrogen peroxide under the care of a licensed practitioner, who was extremely familiar with this course of treatment. In fact, she used it herself, and probably every client she worked with.
It happened that during my use of this, it was time to have some routine, yearly blood work done with my medical doctor. When he got the tests back, my liver enzymes were all whacked out. He was very concerned, and asked if I was supplementing with anything unusual. He was aware that because of my field, which is health and nutrition, I had a habit of using myself as a guinea pig quite frequently.
I did not tell him about the peroxide I was taking, and said that I was taking high doses of vitamin C instead. He would not have understood about the peroxide, as ingesting such a thing can be very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.
I started out by taking only 1 drop in a glass full of water, on an empty stomach. Then, I had to wait 30 minutes before eating anything.
Every 3-4 days, I was to increase by another drop until I was taking something like 20 drops. I do remember many times feeling a wave of extreme nausea right after I drank it, though my Health Practitioner said this was a good thing; that it was detoxifying another layer of bacteria.
It is used primarily to treat parasites, which I was taught, nearly every human has to some degree nowadays.
Due to the fact that my liver test results came back alarmingly high, my medical doctor asked me to stop taking all supplements, and get retested after a few weeks. I stopped taking the hydrogen peroxide, was retested, and all my blood work returned to normal.
It was at that time I decided I did not want to use this treatment any longer, so I quit. I actually felt better when I did not take it. I did not notice any great benefit from using this. I was on it for a few months.
In closing, I will add these comments:
1. My Health Practitioner swears by it.
2. The dose for animals would be way smaller than what is used for humans.
3. A few drops of Kyolic liquid garlic drops, added to a pet's water on a daily basis, works wonders for their overall health. It is a natural dewormer, and flea repellent. In my opinion, it is much, much safer to use than hydrogen peroxide therapy.
4. If you decide to try hydrogen peroxide on your pet, I would only do so under the instruction of a Naturapathic Veterinarian.
Hope this helped you.
