5 Precautions In Working Lab Chemicals

Working with science lab equipment is both fun and educational, but it's important to remember that laboratory instruments are not toys and should be always be handled with care.

It should be easy to avoid accidents and injuries in the lab by following a few simple safety precautions.

1. Know how things work; A person should always be aware of how the laboratory instruments they are handling work. For example, some types of glassware should not be used in experiments that involve extreme heat, or else they may break. If someone doesn't know how a piece of science lab equipment works, they should ask someone who does, and/or study the equipment until they know enough about it to be competent when handling it.

2. Wear the right protective gear; Lab equipment, especially used lab equipment , can cause accidents at any time even if it looks safe. The chemicals used in science labs are also potentially dangerous. Therefore one should always wear proper protective gear; such as gloves, goggles, shoes, masks or an apron, when in the laboratory.

3. Don't use damaged lab equipment; Beware of used lab equipment , if it's damaged it could be very dangerous. Check all containers and dishes for chips, cracks or leaks, and make sure that all devices are well maintained. Any damaged equipment should be thrown away immediately

4. Don't leave equipment unattended; This is a recipe for disaster. When conducting an experiment with lab equipment, make sure never to leave it on its own. Not only is this dangerous, it could also damage expensive equipment. An object could fall and break something, or a flame could go out of control and start a fire. This is why it's good to work with a lab partner, so there's always someone keeping an eye on things.

5. Last but not least, you should always clean equipment properly. It is important to note that science labs are where people are always handling dangerous and volatile chemicals. For this reason it is essential that all science lab equipment be well cleaned after every use. Chemical residues left on uncleaned lab equipment have been known to cause violent reactions when mixed with other chemicals. Keeping everything in the lab clean and sterile should prevent any such accidents.
